Squatting Geneva

Various dimensions installation| archival documents, vintage briefcase, office desk, laptop and notebook | 2017 | Geneva, Switzerland

The project ‘Squatting Geneva’ was carried out during the Summer School Program of 2017 in Geneva between HEAD and ASFA university. It’s a research about the anti-authoritarian and housing movement in late 90’s in Geneva, when an explosion of over 250 squats occurred and about it’s presence today. Even though it happened a long time ago the memories and the narrations from people still exist. Legends like the “Rnino! Squats were still alive”, reminding everyone of the violence the occupied spaces faced back then. The research continued to social housing and culture spaces that succeeded the squats as forms of libertarian spaces. Through various means I documented and filed alphabetically the information collected during my stay in the city. During the exhibition I placed all the material inside a briefcase accessible to the audience. I also provided a laptop for the digital material. Additionally I left a notebook for the audience to give me extra information for further research.
